usflag.jpgThe terrorists have used fallen brothers and sisters of US military men as a way to cause more death rigging dead bodies with explosives and lethal ordnance killing anyone who may try to take them from where they lay. These events have changed the way war is fought by the US Military which has become the only force that is capable of policing the world which most presidents of the past have tried to avoid as much as possible. With the events in Iraq of them going into the war with presumptions that weapons of mass destruction (namely Biological weapons) were in the hands of the fallen dictator, and them subsequently finding that there was none was a true humiliation of the intelligence and information gathering methods of their many military branches and analysts.

The people have again turned against the war effort wanting their sons sent home from the battlefields of Iraq with the government continuing to provide suppressing information that they are continuing to make progress even as soldiers and civilians continue to die in the several places they are assigned to. The war may never end and it may even end with the troops being sent home without establishing the peace they started out to create in the first place. The morality of these events will be debated and argued about by the people back home and those who served in these campaigns for many years that would come and can be the signal for a change in the US government’s leadership making it one of the deciding grounds for the fight in spreading democracy to people who have never heard of the word nonetheless understand the implications of its concepts.

It may never be resolved, for they themselves hate each other enough to prevent them from living side by side. Their philosophy of self rule is sure to return them to the initial state they were in before the drive to initiate democracy started leaving the deaths of American servicemen as meaningless as hell. They might as well send their men and women home to spare their lives from the unsolvable internal conflicts that are currently continuing to shape the current status of the country.

The American War Philosophy

usflag.jpgblackhawk.jpgsomalia.jpg

There have been many wars that the US has engaged in during the short span since the second world war. Vietnam, the liberation of Kuwait, invasion of Iraq and many more. Many of their enemies such as these terrorists whom they blame for the crashing of planes and subsequent demise of the twin towers, the World Trade Center (which was already targeted once from which they same was done by the same people so you would think they would have learned) and the deaths of many. These terrorists have capitalized on one thing that has led to many defeats such as the Black Hawk Down Incident in Somalia when they conducted a so-called flash raid to capture several key rebel leaders which ended in one of their most humiliating defeats since Vietnam, the leave no man behind policy.

This may have to do more of the moral implications and the opinions of their constituents when their fallen are left in the battlefield to be humiliated again and again by the enemy (and very much publicized by the ever present media who go where no media people have gone before capitalizing on the desecration and humiliation of dead people who should have otherwise been left alone out of respect and should be seen only by authorities and not the general public due to their graphic nature) Media has become an ever present entity on the battlefield which has given us front row seats in the bombing of the Iraqi capital in the “Shock and Awe Campaign”  (which also showed the first images of the smart-bombs or should we call them not-so-smart bombs that hit some unwanted targets causing some collateral damage(which could also have been the result of the Iraqi army lobbing shells at their own people making it look as if the smart-bombs missed). The morality being missed as they clamor to be the first to get there and break the news, in their never ending quest to bring the news(good or bad) straight to your TV as you are sitting down to eat dinner after a long hard day’s work The Military have had a policy of getting all their personnel out dead or alive as soon as possible to avoid a turning of tides at home where families can start complaining to the government that their son’s and daughter’s who went to war were not returned to them for a formal and decent burial which can have disastrous effects on their morale and the government’s political opponents agenda to use against it.

education.jpgEducation is the key and this applies not only to the US, but for all people around the world who are only now beginning to get a taste of how good democracy and freedom is. China’s older generation is void of such concepts but the events of the past five or six years where the government has accepted more liberal ideas allowing free trade fuelling it’s breakneck economic boom placing it before the laws that are widely accepted around the world. Many see China as the biggest market on the earth which has credence for they have 1.3 Billion citizens and it is just about opening up to the world of trade and products from the country is beginning to flood world markets. Here too, the rapid economic growth of the several economic regions in China has spurred unlikely problems like their habit of cutting corners in order to increase profits to the use of sub-standard materials in the manufacture of products for export abroad. Recalls of various products which have been found to contain dangerous amounts of poisonous chemicals contained within paints and other finishing products (even toothpaste that is laced with trace amounts of anti-freeze chemicals) have led to many arrests and rapid changes to the government’s governance regarding products standards. These manufacturers are simply not used to following rules and do whatever it takes to deliver finished products which have resulted in deaths and health problems mainly in children who have used such products.

China faces many hurdles to become a more open and transparent state but being a socialist state may be one of it’s main obstacles. The government hopes to increase profits in terms of economic growth but another aspect of that society that has ruled the country which is human rights has repeatedly failed world standards. The education system of China has also been forced to adopt more open curricula such as the teaching of democracy which is a word banned from the verbal repertoire of many generations of Chinese in times past. The population might be finding it hard to adopt a more open world but this might be the only way for China to continue its growth and evolution into one of the world’s greatest economic powers. The next ten years will be the determining period if the growth in its economy will continue or the drive will simply crumble and fail into oblivion.

Ethics on the decline in the US?

enron.jpgCorporations have fallen and heads have rolled, there is an ever increasing decrease of ethics in the United States according to many experts. They have noted the recent problems associated with Enron, Adelphia and Barry Bonds where people placed themselves before the common good resulting in much discomfort to may investors and giving the money market a shakedown resulting in inflation. Another problem with the system is that these events go very much unnoticed becoming apparent only when whistle-blowers pull the plug and reveal the problem. The justice system has enforced strict penalties on the culprits but many answers remain unanswered such as why and how such dastardly acts were even allowed to happen in the first place.

Educators have placed the blame on the inability of the education system to include more education in the area of ethics making the new generation think that they can do and get away with just about anything. The liberal ideas of the founding fathers were conceptualized for a reason, freedom. The freedom of expression and just about anything else that serves to restrict that right to exercise your rights to do anything you want to. But, there is a but in the fray which is the law or the rules and regulations that define our society without which there would be no freedom. The young generation have grown too accustomed to liberty without being reminded that one has to abide by laws that govern behavior. These may become evident as more and more teens get in trouble with the law simply because they fear no one and that they believe they have the right to do anything they please.

Democracy might not be for all and that may be true for the many theaters of conflict the world over. Philosophy has played a major role in the world’s political scene where countries with the resources and are capable have exerted their ability to influence the political workings within these ailing countries in hopes of making it a better place for their citizens.

The developed countries who make up the world’s political governing body has proven that a democracy can work on a global scale in theory where within their walls battles of political will are exerted each and every day, well in theory that is.  Many of the members of these governing bodies have individual agenda’s in the world theater and the laws and stipulations of these laws are very much different with respect to enforcement and adoption. The conflicts that have arisen from democracy failing has led people to question if the move towards democracy was right or wrong for their place in history is still uncertain. The newer generations of people who have an idea of democracy and the right to do whatever they wish is quite baffling to those who have grown under the shadow of control exercised by many states that still adopt and use the monarchial or more modern socialist approach to government.

The largest country on earth with the highest population ratio, China, has been forced to adopt unorthodox laws in order to curb and control the rapid population increase such as the “One Child” policy wherein married couples can only have one child by law or face penalization or other brutal measures. The government’s of the world know that it happens and so do the citizens but what can they do within a country that has always grown to love socialist rule. The divided Korea is also subject to the “Strong Arm” of the government where poverty and being rich is quite evident. Within the party, opulence is the key and outside of it, hardship and poverty is most evident. The future may see a unified governance body that would rule the world but that may be a long shot with today’s political ideologies and differences even be remote. Humans are quite capable of change even in the hardest times when people become people and help themselves for they have no one else to turn to. Tomorrow will be another day in the political landscape and the battles of today will carry onto the battlefield of tomorrow, both in ideology and physical manifestations.

Confucius

confucius.jpgEver wondered about the area about politics that makes it so ideal and pristine, Ethics. As it turns out, the very first philosopher to ever suggest the relationship between politics and ethics was the famous Chinese philosopher Confucius who emphasized personal and governmental morality. As we all know, most governments are founded on a set of rules or laws that have been refined and revised throughout that specific country’s history. The great civilizations of the ancient times such as the Egyptians and the Maya’s have their forms of governance patterned after nature and that in nature there is a supreme being that makes all things happen. This supreme being (which is embodied by a king or other form of ruler) can and has the right to revise and formulate laws as they see fit based on either personal preferences and historical facts (which is the written or oral history of the race or tribe which states or defines the role of the leader) however long the said culture might have existed. These cultures may have come and gone but their influence and views on how the world, life and self-governance happens is history. The English, French and other major civilizations of Medieval times went through several upheavals in government because of corruption and other related matters. The Greeks began the study of philosophy as part of their quest in understanding the why, what, where and who’s of life. Why did the sun set at night, why do the flowers bloom during spring and many other questions people might ponder about were thought of an explanation collectively by scholars and philosophers of the day.

Confucius is recognized worldwide as a philosopher whose works and theories have shaped the lives and governments of many Asian civilizations. His work in linking ethics (which is the study of how one should behave in relation to others) and Politics (which is the institution of governance) and how these two should begin at the personal level. The Romans have recognized the principle and was said to be one of the reasons why people got to the Senate. To be a good responsible citizen who is part of society, one must become part of the senate to show he has nothing to hide. This is true but man has a way of twisting and turning history and faith using it for personal benefit which can be seen as far back as recorded history can remember. Much of the works of the great philosophical fathers such as Socrates is known only through the writings of his student Plato who is also a philosopher who might have changed a few thoughts as he reviews and records them in writing. History is written memory of people and cultures that have long gone and much of our lives today will become the history of tomorrow. As the great Confucius would have put it, how have you lived today and what have you contributed to society. The good of the many, greatly outweighs the good of the one.

“The Law of Nature” – Part 3

nature2.jpgAt this time Natural law has been divided into two main areas; the law of man and the law of Nature which is said to define what where and how things happen around us. This in turn relates to most modern views of the so-called natural Law, the definition of which is still an enigma to this day even with all the sciences and theological bodies that try to define and give meaning to it. Analyzing religion from all sides, we have a common fact in that all of the sects/groups have a single being at the top, Jesus for the Christians, Muhammad for the Muslims, Buddha for the Shinto and so on and so forth.

Summing all of this up, the term “Natural Law” is still a vague yet seemingly defined concept that causes us to go back to the questions our ancient forefathers asked themselves, why are we here, how does the world and nature work out as it does and what may be the future for us in this ever-changing universe which “Natural Law” controls but whose true meaning is still out of grasp. Many philosophical and scientific genius have defined it but to look back, their definitions lead to more questions rather than answers. Science as we know it is an evolving body of knowledge and Philosophy as well is such that both have a common function, which is to give us reason, a reason to find ourselves in our place in this time and space and time of thinking as we evolve into the future human race. No one authority should claim supreme authority for man is a thinking being capable of creating his own view from what is happening which makes the task ever more difficult. The true definition of Natural Law might be out of reach but we are all embodiments of the said law however incomprehensible and vague it may be.

“The Law of Nature” – Part 2

nature1.jpgWhen the Romans came, they adopted and created their own set of laws that became the standard for legal; theory and which was to become a part of the Roman Empire’s reason for success in their conquest of the known world. They formulated laws that derived from the natural laws of Aristotle’s times that stated things happened for a reason combined with their view of man’s reason in the whole equation. Government was created and the senate was formed, comprising of people from everyday lives when it started, turning into a circus and playground for the rich, famous and influential in the empire’s later years. The Romans worshiped gods and deities which were descent from the ancient set of beliefs which were from the foundations of faith created by men in Aristotle’s time as they sought for an explanation for why man was here and who was making all these events possible. The branches of sciences have been defined and they were being improved on by the many so-called experts of  the day.

Christianity was a growing religion which was based on doctrine that there was only one GOD who was responsible for all the events and was the embodiment of early understanding which had quite a loose division between religion and the sciences. The coming of Jesus (which is still a controversial fact that scholars are debating to this day) which is said to be the embodiment of GOD who became man along with prophets who preached the works of GOD (this is the time when many of the world’s modern religions figures were formed such as the belief in the prophet Muhammad who was said to be a descendant of Abraham) into their own right or religious groups.

“The Law of Nature” – Part 1

nature.jpgWho was the individual that coined the said term? Well, after much searching and research, as it turns out, no one? Yes they are strewn all over on t-shirts, bumper stickers and posters plus hundreds of other stuff yet in the most basic definition, the term “Law of Nature” has no scientific basis and is mainly a creation of man. The term “Law of Nature” has been found to be a generalized terminology used to describe the whole body of laws that man has formulated through the ages into a singular definitive description hence the term, laws of nature.

Natural law was seemingly conceptualized by the Greeks when the decided that there was something that controlled the things that happened around them. The coming and going of the stars, the moon and stars plus the changing seasons, they looked at is as if it were following a set pattern. This pattern was the defined lay of nature. In a time when man was starting to ask the question why am I here and what purpose do I have for being here it was a plausible explanation. This is also the time when the many sciences were developed and formulated, separated from the theoretical or philosophical world by trying to define using set measures, such as the concept of time, seasons and many more which allowed these natural factors to be predicted hence making them into a foreseeable event. The factors which also say make the flowers bloom during the said months and bear fruit best when a set of conditions were set allowed cultivation of domesticated crops ending the nomadic lifestyle.
